Bariatrics is a field of medicine that deals with obesity. Bariatric surgeons specifically advice patients on health issues related to weight gain. Bariatric surgeons provide advice on the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity using dieting, exercise, behavioral therapy, using medicine, as well as surgery. They specifically perform procedures that help with weight gain including procedures that reduce the absorption of food and procedures that reduce the size of the stomach amongst other types of procedures.

A general surgeon is a physician who has been educated, experienced and trained in the diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient health care. They are highly trained in various medical fields such as emergency, and intensive care, immunology, metabolism, nutrition, shock, and wound healing. General surgeons basically perform surgical operations of the major parts of the human body which involves endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, liver, large intestine. They also perform the surgeries which are done through small incisions on body parts. Some of the surgical procedures which include removal of the appendix, gallbladder and excessive fat removal from the body are also done by a general physician.

A laparoscopic surgeon is a doctor who is trained in performing laparoscopic surgeries to treat various medical problems including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, cancer, rectal prolapse, and severe constipation. Laparoscopic surgery, (also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), keyhole surgery, or band-aid surgery), is a modern surgical technique in which operations are performed by a laproscopic surgeon. They usually make several small cuts elsewhere in the body and insert a camera, and a fiber-optic instrument through the abdominal wall or pelvic cavity to evaluate and view the organs in the abdomen or pelvic areas of the body.
