A periodontist is a specialized dentist who expertized in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal diseases. They are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures, placement of dental implants and the treatment of many periodontal diseases like gingivitis or gum disease. A general dentist is also qualified to treat periodontal disease, but a periodontist is more specialized in such diseases.
